R. W. Beck to Speak at Water Utility Management Conference

DENVER (February 8, 2010) – Water, wastewater, and energy experts from R. W. Beck, an SAIC company, will present at the American Water Works Association and the Water Environment Federation’s Utility Management Conference, which is being help February 21 – 24 in San Francisco, Cali.


Executive Vice President Ed Wetzel will present "Viability of Long-Term Concessions for Municipal Water and Wastewater Utilities" with Citigroup Global Markets' Managing Director of the Public Finance Department Ray Kljajic. They will discuss how municipal government is finding ways to monetize their assets through privatization or other forms of asset sale or transfer. Wetzel and Kljajic will share insights from several case studies of government entities that have recently considered alternative approaches to water and wastewater system monetization.


In "The Energy-Water Nexus, Politics and Your Utility: Insights for the Future," Vice President Lynn Adams, will present the findings of an original research project on the intersection of energy and water. She will characterize the state of the industry and future plans, utility and stakeholder perspectives, related business strategies, and funding concepts. The presentation features research findings, as well as a live benchmark for attendees to compare their own approaches to survey results.


Vice President Dave Yanke will present "Building Consensus During the Development of a Uniform Wholesale Water Contract" with Water Director for the City of Fort Worth Frank Crumb. They will describe the steps taken to develop a new wholesale water contract for 30 wholesale water customers. The presentation will include discussion of the use of rate sensitivity analyses during the course of developing the contract and the importance of ongoing communications with the wholesale customers throughout the process.


As an alternate presenter, Senior Consultant Joe Dysard may present "Energy Efficiency Programs for Water and Wastewater Utilities." He will address the basics of an effective and efficient energy savings program, ranging from organizational accountability and employee involvement to performance tracking and resource allocation.
